What is the best place to host my WordPress Blog?

November 29th, 2011

A typical query:

Right now I am using GoDaddy, and I was wondering if there was a better place to host my blog, like BlueHost. What do you recommend?

Answer: This topic can be a confusing one. To clear the obvious, WordPress.com is the free hosting which will most probably never be the right hosting for aspiring website owner. WordPress.org is the one being used by successful website owners. However, you need a separate web hosting plan in order to use the powerful blogging system from WordPress.org

It is not your fault you got confused about WordPress.org and WordPress.com.

Web hosting is one of the most critical thing for your online presence and can mean the success and failure for your business. Do not simply pick the first web hosting service you find. Most of them are just resellers, have almost no support and very unreliable. To answer your query about which web hosting to choose, here are 7 things to look for in a good WordPress hosting. An excellent hosting:

  1. lets you try their service for free or at very low price,
  2. gives more-than-enough diskspace,
  3. offers no limit on bandwidth,
  4. gives multiple add-on domains,
  5. has easy-to-use Site Builder,
  6. has Fantastico and QuickInstall to quickly install WordPress
  7. has Fantastico and QuickInstall to quickly install other useful free apps such as Joomla, Drupal, OSCommerce, ZenCart and more
  8. can be easily upgraded to VPS or one of their cheap dedicated server plans if and when your business require.

To answer your question, why not try Hostgator. If you are building your first website and needs a hosting plan, experts usually highly recommend going with Hostgator because they are the best cheap cpanel hosting around.

What if you find out that Hostgator sucks after you signed up with them? HG has 45 days, longer-than-industry-average money back guarantee so you have ample time to test them out. They are rated A+ by Better Business Bureau which shows their commitment to customer satisfaction. You also do not have to pay for the first month. You can just try their fully functional hosting service – you pay only $0.01 (you need to use the special coupon code). Do you know any other hosting company that can give you that kind of assurance? Anybody can grab an account from Hostgator for almost FREE.

Who Should Not Try Hostgator

To be honest, no web hosting service is perfect. The drawbacks of Hostgator include:

  1. No free domain name – but you can easily get a domain name from the best domain registrar such as Godaddy or Namecheap for $10 or less. Would you agree that a website is not complete without a domain name?
  2. You need to pay full price after your first invoice – well, they need to make money too and all the support and great service do come with a cost

What about Bluehost? We believe Bluehost sucks because they have inodes limit of 50,000 which means they can suspend your account when it reaches 50k files. That is not exactly unlimited is it? That was why we moved to Hostgator and has been happy for more than 5 years.

If you are still not sure if HG is right for your WordPress needs, or you have specific query about anything at all, try the Live Chat at HG. They are fast and knowledgeable. Just shoot them some questions before you decide.

I have used both Hostgator and Bluehost. They are very similar. My preference is BlueHost. My current blog is on Bluehost.

But I have used both and have actually contacted customer service on both and they are both responsive and helpful.

So anyways I would recommend BlueHost.

in all honesty I would suggest Hostgator. I have over 18 wordpress blogs setup with them that I use for a lot of different topics. (I’m addicted to WP).

They have a nice setup for WordPress and it’s always updated to work with the newest versions of WordPress. BlueHost is nice but I have better uptimes and cron jobs with WordPress through hostgator.

oh and PS… Godaddy for domains, great but for hosting… horrible.

I recommend one of these http://www.webhostingtable.com

Fatcow has the best offer right now.
    Their standard price is $88/year
but they have the 50% sale right now.

    Disk space: Unlimited
    Bandwidth: Unlimited
    A Free domain name
    Unlimited domains and subdomains

    Price: $44/year

They’re one of the oldest hosting companies, founded 1998, they’re also one of the largest, currently hosting about 500,000 websites.

Their hosting plan includes easy, one click install of WordPress from their control panel.
