what is the best host service for a wordpress.org blog?

December 30th, 2011

A frequently-asked query:

i have a free word press.com blog and want to gain more control. Do i need to know code for this if i use the word press downloadable software

Answer: This topic can be a confusing one. To clear the obvious, WordPress.com is the free hosting which will not be the right hosting for serious business owners. WordPress.org is the one being used by successful website owners. However, you need a separate web hosting plan in order to use the powerful blogging system from WordPress.org

It is not your fault you got confused about WordPress.org and WordPress.com.

Web hosting is one of the most critical thing for your online presence and can mean the life or death to your business. Do not simply pick the first web hosting service you find. Most of them are just resellers, have almost no support and very unreliable. To answer your query about which web hosting to choose, here are 7 qualities to look for in a good WordPress hosting. An excellent hosting:

  1. has at least 30 days money back guarantee,
  2. gives more-than-enough webspace,
  3. offers unlimited bandwidth,
  4. gives multiple add-on domains,
  5. has easy-to-use Site Builder,
  6. has Fantastico and QuickInstall to quickly install WordPress
  7. has Fantastico and QuickInstall to quickly install other useful free apps such as Joomla, Drupal, OSCommerce, ZenCart and more
  8. can be easily upgraded to VPS or one of their cheap dedicated server plans if and when your business require.

Answering your question, 92% of Webmasters recommended to try Hostgator. If you need an “unlimited” hosting plan, experts usually highly recommend going with Hostgator because they are the best cheap cpanel hosting around.

What if you find out that Hostgator sucks after you signed up with them? HG has 45 days, longer-than-industry-average money back guarantee so you have ample time to test them out. They are rated A+ by Better Business Bureau which shows their commitment to customer satisfaction. You also do not have to pay for the first month. You can just try their fully functional hosting service – you pay only $0.01 (you need to use the special coupon code). Do you know any other hosting company that can give you that kind of assurance? Anybody can grab an account from Hostgator for almost FREE.

Who Should Not Try Hostgator

To be honest, no web hosting service is perfect. The drawbacks of Hostgator include:

  1. No free domain name – but you can easily get a domain name from the best domain registrar such as Godaddy or Namecheap for $10 or less. Would you agree that a website is not complete without a domain name?
  2. You need to pay full price after your first invoice – well, they need to make money too and all the support and great service do come with a cost

What about Bluehost? We believe Bluehost sucks because they have inodes limit of 50,000 which means they can suspend your account when it reaches 50k files. That is not exactly unlimited is it? That was why we moved to Hostgator and has been happy for more than 5 years.

If you are still not sure if HG is right for your WordPress needs, or you have specific query about anything at all, try the Live Chat at HG. They are fast and knowledgeable. Just shoot them some questions before you decide.

As you may know a domain name is just a name, not a real website/weblog. If you are going to create your blog website: 1- Buy a domain name. A domain name is a name you want to call your website (ex: www.yahoo.com). To get a domain name, you have to pay an annual fee to a registrar for the right to use that name. 2- Buy a web hosting service to provide your online space and enable you to get your blog online at your purchased domain name.

If you’re going to start your blog at your own domain with different pages, you need a web host providing wordpress.

    Take a look at:
There you can reach the three reputable companies that are leaders in the blog/wordpress website hosting industry.

There you can find a step-by-step guide to start your website.

    Hope this helps.

WordPress is WordPress either way. The version for self-hosted types offers more options and lots more themes, but the operation is pretty much the same: the difference is, you can make whatever changes you want. (And you have to fix whatever you break, as I’ve discovered more than once.)

It helps to be familiar with PHP and CSS, but neither of them is absolutely necessary; I can write about three lines of PHP before I realize I’m out of my depth.
