Best Web Hosts for WordPress?

December 6th, 2011

A typical query:

I bought a domain name from godaddy.com and I want my website to be sort of a blog. I want to use the wordpress software. What are the best web hosts you suggest for wordpress? By the way I am new to the blogging world.

Any advice about blogging would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

Answer: This is a very popular question from aspiring blog and website owners. To clear the obvious, WordPress.com is the free hosting which will not be the best hosting for most people. WordPress.org is the one being used by successful website owners. However, you need a separate web hosting plan in order to use the powerful blogging system from WordPress.org

It is not your fault you got confused about WordPress.org and WordPress.com.

Web hosting is the heart of your online presence and can mean the life or death to your business. Do not simply pick the first web hosting service you find. Most of them are just resellers, have almost no support and very unreliable. To answer your query about which web hosting to choose, here are 7 factors to look for in a good WordPress hosting. An excellent hosting:

  1. lets you try their service for free or at very low price,
  2. gives more-than-enough storage,
  3. offers no limit on bandwidth,
  4. gives unlimited add-on domains,
  5. has friendly Site Builder,
  6. has Fantastico and QuickInstall to quickly install WordPress
  7. has Fantastico and QuickInstall to quickly install other useful free apps such as Joomla, Drupal, OSCommerce, ZenCart and more
  8. can be easily upgraded to VPS or one of their cheap dedicated server plans if and when your business require.

To answer your question, 92% of Webmasters recommended to try Hostgator. If you are building your first website and needs a hosting plan, experts usually highly recommend going with Hostgator because they are the best cheap cpanel hosting around.

What if you find out that Hostgator sucks after you signed up with them? HG has 45 days, longer-than-industry-average money back guarantee so you have ample time to test them out. They are rated A+ by Better Business Bureau which shows their commitment to customer satisfaction. You also do not have to pay for the first month. You can just try their fully functional hosting service – you pay only $0.01 (you need to use the special coupon code). Do you know any other hosting company that can give you that kind of assurance? Anybody can grab an account from Hostgator for almost FREE.

Who Should Not Try Hostgator

To be honest, no web hosting service is perfect. The drawbacks of Hostgator include:

  1. No free domain name – but you can easily get a domain name from the best domain registrar such as Godaddy or Namecheap for $10 or less. Would you agree that a website is not complete without a domain name?
  2. You need to pay full price after your first invoice – well, they need to make money too and all the support and great service do come with a cost

What about Bluehost? We believe Bluehost sucks because they have inodes limit of 50,000 which means they can suspend your account when it reaches 50k files. That is not exactly unlimited is it? That was why we moved to Hostgator and has been happy for more than 5 years.

If you are still not sure if HG is right for your WordPress needs, or you have specific query about anything at all, try the Live Chat at HG. They are fast and knowledgeable. Just shoot them some questions before you decide.

Host it at godaddy, only $4.00 a month.

Download wordpress plugins like"reCaptcha" to prevent spam, download SEO plugins so that people find your blog through search engines like Yahoo! and Google. If your blog is successful, meaning you get 100′s of visitors a day, download "cache" plugins so that the sever won’t be as slow. If you blog is indeed successful upgrade to a better hosting plan. perhaps get a dedicated server.

Most of them are perfectly fine for wordpress.

See here for tables on the best hosting companies of 2008:

I’d personally go with 1 of the top 3: startlogic, bluehost, or hostgator. It all depends on what you think is the most important? If its customer service go with bluehost, if its an all rounder: start logic, hostgator is the webmasters favouriteand has a lot of features.
